THINGS TO DO IN BRISTOL OVER THE SUMMER

Summer is here! With lockdown slowly beginning to ease, the possibility of being able to do more over the next coming months is becoming more real. 

Here are our top picks on what to enjoy during these warm months! 

Explore the plethora of independent food shops

Known for its love of food, Bristol has so much to choose from. How about taking a stroll along one of Bristol’s most famous street, Park Street where you can grab yourself an ice cream from Swoon or something Chocolatey at Mrs Potts Chocolate House! 

Visit Bristol’s array of parks and have a picnic

Bristol has many, many, many parks- over 400 to be exact! With a range dotted all over the city you can spend your time not only getting some fresh air, but exploring new parts of the city you may have never been to before.

Go to the beach!

Summer means only one thing- sun and sandy beaches! Although Bristol is not home to a beach itself, Weston-Super-Mare and Sand Bay are on it’s doorstep. Clevedon also has a lovely pier for visitors to walk along to take in the views. 

There are also many beaches in and around South Wales, so if you are prepared to drive just little further you can make the most out of them.

Take a boat trip! 

With the harbour right in the middle of the city centre, why not jump on a boat and explore the city!

Walk over the Clifton Suspension Bridge 

This one is probably a given and always comes up top on the list as things to do when in Bristol; but visiting the suspension bridge on a sunny day is just stunning. 

Take a bike ride down the Bristol/ bath cycle path 

The Bristol and Bath Railway path is a 15 mile cycleway spanning the distance between Bristol and Bath. 

An extremely popular pathway, the cycle path is used by commuters, leisurely walkers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. It’s a great way to see some local artwork and enjoy the landscape that joins these two beautiful cities together. 

Go to Upfest 

Upfest is Bedminster’s mural festival. Local artists paint murals on different location throughout BS3 over a certain amount of days. With the event this year ending in a festival on the 28-29th August in Greville Smyth Park. 

Visit the Balloon fiesta

The Bristol Balloon fiesta is Europe’s biggest hot air balloon event that descends on Ashton Court every summer. 

The event is free and features over 100 hot air balloons from across the globe. 

Visit a city farm 

If visiting some animals sounds like you sort of day out then head down to either Windmill Hill city farm or St Werburgh’s city farm. A great chance to walk around, see some animals and stop off at the cafes for some refreshments.
