Covid-19 created unprecedented changes for all of us and created many issues for a number of industries. With the whole of Europe in and out of lockdown for the past year, the hospitality sector has albeit, remained mostly closed. However, many specific accommodation providers have been able to remain open for those needing essential accommodation for business travel and/or certain housing circumstances.
It seems although the serviced apartment sector has seen a decline in demand for their services, they do seem to be performing marginally better than other types of accommodation providers, such as hotels, due to its increased privacy and safety.
With the positive news of a vaccine and the initial rollout seeming to be going to plan, many of us are now dreaming of the prospect of being able to get away for a well-deserved break in the not so distant future, with ‘staycations’ becoming a popular choice for holidaymakers.
Here are why serviced apartments are the safest way to stay somewhere during Covid-19 (and any other time for that matter).
More space and freedom
Serviced apartments don’t just offer you a room, they offer you a ‘home from home’ experience, meaning they provide you with exactly what their name suggests… a whole apartment to live in.
That means you have a one or two bedroom completely to yourself offering separate rooms to eat, sleep and live in. It’s this that sets them apart from hotels, providing you with much more space than any hotel room.
Increased privacy
Because serviced apartments provide you with your own apartment, they provide you with much more privacy due to the fact you have everything you need within them. They are completely self contained and there is no reason for people to leave their apartment should they wish…hence why they are an excellent choice for those who need to self quarantine/ isolate!
With no on-site staff (or at least extremely limited site staff), strict social distancing measures can be maintained. However, even though there may not be staff on site, they will still be easily contactable should you need and will always be on hand.
There are also a higher turnover levels of guests in hotels meaning sanitisation can be more difficult to maintain. Serviced apartments provide sanitisation before and after each guest’s stay and also offer a weekly housekeeping service (should you wish) and this level of frequency can also be increased if required.

This is perfect for those, particularly on longer stays, as it means you can eat in from the comfort of your apartment (rather than having to dine out every night) also making them an excellent choice for families.
These self catering facilities are also what sets them apart in turns of Covid safety too. The fact you remain in your room, do not have any shared eating facilities and minimal contact with others means social distancing is easily maintained.

Alongside the fully fitted kitchens, serviced apartments also offer extras such as dishwashers and washing machines so you can be completely self sufficient during your stay.
They quite often include other home comforts such as HD TVs set up with smart devices, sofas, dining areas and good size fridges and freezers so you don’t have a mini bar fridge to contend with!
Contactless Self Check In / No shared reception areas
Many serviced apartments offer contactless self check in services, thus minimising contact with other people.
This is quite the contrast to hotel rooms where you come into contact with a range of different staff members, pass other hotel guests and come into contact with different work surfaces all before you’ve even got to your room.

With the surge of remote working now fully grounded into many people’s working lives, many people have found they can now work from absolutely anywhere! This means many people are choosing new places to visit and working from these places at the same time.
